Happy new year! A lot has happened in the world of Ikon over the last twelve months, and we realise you know who we are, but do you know where we are? Why not grab a coffee and let us paint you a picture whilst we tell you more – Ikon at the beautiful Darley Abbey Mills.
Ikon’s new larger office is at Darley Abbey Mill, located in the picturesque village of Darley Abbey in Derby. It’s a historic and iconic site that has played a significant role in the local area’s history. The mill has been in operation for centuries, dating back to the 12th century when it was first established as a fulling mill by the Cistercian monks of Darley Abbey. The mill underwent several changes and upgrades in the centuries that followed, including new waterwheels and the conversion to a cotton spinning mill during the Industrial Revolution. The mill was a cotton spinning mill until the early 20th century. It has since been used for various purposes, including as a sawmill, a workshop, and a storage facility.
Today, Darley Abbey Mill is a protected historical site and a popular tourist destination. Visitors can tour the mill and learn about its rich history, including its various uses and changes through the centuries. The mill also hosts multiple events and exhibitions annually, showcasing the local area’s history and culture.
The local area of Darley Abbey is also steeped in history and culture. The village is home to the ruins of Darley Abbey, a 12th-century Cistercian monastery that Henry VIII dissolved in the 16th century. The village also has several charming 18th and 19th-century buildings, including the Darley Abbey Village Institute, a Georgian building that now serves as a community centre.
Darley Abbey village is also home to various recreational activities and amenities. Darley Abbey Park, located just a short walk from the mill, is a popular spot for picnics, walks, and outdoor events. The park also has a playground and a skatepark, making it a great place to visit for families.
The location of Darley Abbey Mill is also ideal for businesses (and we feel fortunate to be part of it). The mill is located just a short distance from the city centre of Derby, providing easy access to the city’s amenities and services. The mill is also close to major transportation links, including the A6 and the M1 motorway, making it easily accessible from the rest of the country.
In addition, the mill’s historic and iconic status can also serve as a unique and attractive feature for businesses. The mill’s history and cultural significance attract customers and clients and serve as a unique and memorable location for events, meetings, and other business-related activities.
Now we’ve introduced our beautiful location, why not come and visit and explore for yourself.
