What difference does this make to you, and why should you use a qualified SEMA Distributor Company?
You may know by now that earlier this month; we qualified as a SEMA Distributor Company (SDC). This means that you no longer have to take our word for it; this qualification from SEMA indicates that Ikon Solutions is dedicated to supplying quality storage equipment.
The responsibility of storing hundreds of tons of pallets above working colleagues’ heads is serious. A racking, mezzanine or shelving collapse is a dramatic event. In a worst-case scenario, it can result in death or injury, temporary closure of the business, and a thorough costly and time-consuming HSE investigation, leaving the company’s finances and director’s liabilities exposed. Who wants that? Yet still, many UK companies don’t seem to recognise these risks when it comes to racking safety.
There are hundreds of manufacturers, suppliers, designers and installers of storage equipment in the UK. From sole traders to multi-million-pound corporations, many of whom are not currently regulated or audited. To become part of the Sema Distributor Group (SDG) isn’t an easy task.
A company must demonstrate a high level of commitment to safety standards, work to industry codes of practice and be regulated by an external audit that measures 31 areas of quality, ensuring excellence in process, design compliance, and delivering the highest H&S standards. Passing this audit is a prerequisite for membership of SDG.
